A friend of mine from Russia is applying for a study permit to take ESL and feeling quite anxious as she is a girl, and it seems like CIC just does not want girls as students in Canada.
If anyone can share stories, please do.

It's got nothing to do with the fact that she is a girl.
It doesn't make any sense to spend so much money to come to Canada just to take an ESL course. When CIC sees study permit applications for ESL courses, they often think that the person is just trying to find a way to get to Canada and isn't a genuine student.
If your friend is a genuine student, she should take a real course in Canada such as a college diploma or a university degree.
