Hello everybody ---- So I'm in the process of sponsoring my wife to Canada ,from Botswana. The app is being processed in Pretoria,S.A --- average processing time ,according to CIC site is 14 mths. We are at 20 mths now. A immigration lawyer and a Border Services employee both advised me to go to my MPs office for help. I did that 3 mths ago. They asked a few questions, wrote down some info, and I have heard NOTHING except the usual 'we are waiting for info regarding your case' line of crap. Has anyone ever been helped by an MP in a sponsorship case ? Just wondering if everyone has had the same experience I have . I went to the Liberal MP office..maybe I should try the conservative MP ??

I dont think changing the political party making the request will make a difference since the MP representing your area based on your on your current address makes the inquiry.
I did an MP inquiry and got a reply in 15 days but keep in mind it could also be a delay on your end from the Botswana visa office.
You should follow up again may be with someone senior in the office?

It really depends on the MP, some have had extremely positive experiences with their mp while people like me have had terrible responses and basically have been given literally no positive updates. Really depends on the MP office.

Hey,

This was their reply
"The CIC office advised that your application to sponsor your spouse is currently in good standing and the background verifications are being worked on. They have been working on stage 2 of the application since January 19, 2015 and confirmed that the processing times for stage 2 is 17 months. No action is required on your part at this time, should they require any further documentation they will contact you directly."

I take it as there is no interview since the MP inquiry would say so

OK--thanks for that. It's interesting. I was told many months ago, by the MPs office to only go to them once the estimated processing time that is stated on CIC website expires. The estimated processing time for our app is 14 mths. I went back to the MPs office at the 15mth mark. We are now at the 19mth mark, and still waiting. I'm just trying to get some info as to what the heck the holdup is. They really really don't like answering questions.

You can also do a case specific inquiry with the Bostwana office since you are over the posted length of time.

you should also definitely contact the visa office directly; most VO will respond fairly quickly if you have surpassed the processing times

Good luck
