Hi folks,

As it says in the thread title, has anyone been visiting Canada, left for a few weeks then been denied entry on return?

I'm just wondering what happens if I do get denied entry, what's the process, do they just put you on the next flight back out?

I'm in the process of a spousal sponsorship, it's in process at Ottawa, and has been since early September. I've been visiting my spouse in ontario since April, and I'm flying home to the UK tonight with my wife to visit family for a couple of weeks. I did have a visitors extention for a year, but I understand that it does not permit re-entry.

What is the likely hood that I'll get denied re-entry if I have my letter from cic saying my sponsorship is in process? If I get denied entry can I go to the united states? I have family there I can stay with for a little while.

I'm really hoping my COPR comes while I'm back home in the UK, but I'm not holding my breath.

Any thoughts, or people with similar experiences, I'd be glad to hear from you.

Thanks

Craig

Your current visitor status length is irrelevant - if you leave, it expires. It doesn't matter if you were given a week, a normal 6 months, or an extension to a year, once you leave, that status no longer exists.

You are relatively unlikely to face problems being from the UK, with an application filed. You may want to fly with proof that you can support yourselves in Canada without you working illegally.

If you are denied entry at an airport, you will almost certainly be turned around on the next plane to the UK, and not allowed to transit Canada to the USA.

The short answer is yes - absolutely. People are certainly denied entry. Extremely unlikely to happen in your case.

Yes - generally speaking they would put you on the next flight out. Once in a while the officer might temporarily allow someone into Canada and they would be obligated to return (typically within 24 hours) to catch a return flight home. However most of the time a person has to remain at the airport until the flight home.
