Hi, my parents are here visiting me on temporary residence visa but will be going back to China. They are in their 60s and I wanted to start the Immigration process because I know it takes a long time and I don't want them being alone when they get older. I also want them to sign whatever documents are necessary while they are here if possible so I don't have to send everything back and forth overseas.

I think I've completed all the Sponsorship forms listed on the government website but I am not clear whether that's all I need to do for now, until my sponsorship application is reviewed and hopefully approved in 3 years time or whatever the waiting period is. I understand that the government will then send me an application for Permanent Residence kit that I will forward on to my parents, is that right?

Does it make sense to have my parents start working on any other Immigration forms yet, or gathering together other supporting documents, before the Sponsorship application is approved? I'd just hate to find out that we unnecessarily delayed the process if there is some work we can do before that time. I'd love to hear any tips or experience from anyone who has gone through this process. Thanks so much.

These are the forms I've prepared so far, based on Instruction Guide [IMM 5196]:

•Application to Sponsor and Undertaking [IMM 1344A] PDF, 346 KB
•Financial Evaluation [IMM 1283] PDF, 284 KB
•Sponsorship Agreement [IMM 1344B] PDF, 39 KB
•Use of a Representative [IMM 5476] PDF, 55 KB with me as representative
•Document Checklist — Sponsor [IMM 5287] PDF, 75 KB

And now I just wait for the Sponsorship application to be reviewed and do nothing until then???

Hi, :D

Is it too early to get their signature on the PR application papers?. For parent's sponsorship approval at least 2-1/2 or three years will be required as of now. Meanwhile, who knows, there could be (?) some changes too.

However, if you wish, you could keep application papers ready now - undated signatures can be obtained without attaching their photos. The PR application should be submitted at thier country of residence- (respective visa office - when sponsorship is approved. That time send the completed papers to the visa office with date and recent photographs.
