Dear all,

We are a married couple from Syria, the conditions in the country are in no better condition, and we would like to try to continue our lives safe in Canada. We fled to Lebanon last summer.
We are at point zero now, we do not know who to contact, or how to reach anyone of how to help us to reach there.
We heard of a case that was a family sponsored through the church, can we do that?
Any advice to start with is appreciated. Thanks

Have you been officially recognized as refugees by UNHCR? If not - that should be your first step.

Yes - you can be sponsored by a church - however in order for this to be possible, you typically need to have a family member of very close friend in Canada who is connected with that church and can make the arrangements. More information on this program is available below:

There is also a list of sponsorship agreement holders who are able to sponsor refugees. However this is now an extremely difficult path since most of these organizations are no longer accepting new people (they have already sponsored as many individuals as they can support). You can find a list of these organizations in the second link below. You can try contacting organizations to see if they are willing to consider sponsoring you - but be prepared that the vast majority or possibly all will say no.

Good luck.

Have you looked into whether you qualify for economic immigration. That would be the easiest way to secure permanent residency in Canada.
