Hi. My partner and I have been in an committed relationship for 15 months but, due to Covid, have not been able to meet in person. That is what we are hoping to do by having him come to Canada. Is their any leniency on this requirement due to travel being so restricted for the past year and more? Any advice appreciated!

As long as your partner is fully vaccinated using a vaccine that is recognized in Canada and has an approved TRV or eTA, they can travel from Sept 7th forward (as said above).

I was hoping that we could proceed with an application now, and maybe not get caught up in the Sept 7th rush, but that is probably wishful thinking. Would the relationship be beneficial in the visitor visa application, or should I just treat it as a friendship since it doesn't fit their criteria? Any idea of what is expected for processing times? I probably don't want to know! Thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean by the Sept 7th rush. The Sept 7th date is just for travel - this date has nothing to do with the submission of TRV / eTA applications.

If you haven't submitted the TRV or etA, then do that now. There is no need to wait until Sept 7th.

Does your partner need an eTA or TRV to travel?
