Hello!

We would like to ask for an advice. We sent an application for sponsorship and month later we received only AOR. Now it's been more than 4 weeks and still have no news from CIC.

We are wondering if the delay is for 2 reasons:
1st Vienna is our local visa office and I read all applications are stopped without any idea when they will be reopened.
2nd the sponsor 2 months before we submitted the application was on welfare due to temporary limited capacity for employment. The sponsore is no longer on welfare but we didn't send any letter as a proof of the welfare suspension, just documents related to the current occupation.

Any advice will be highly appreciated!

Hi

Not sending proof of being off welfare, especially when the sponsor was on it only a few months before sending the app, was a mistake. You need to obtain proof from the welfare office and send it ASAP.

Where did you hear that? Sometimes they send applications to a different visa office than the person's country of citizenship and/or residence, or due to overflow, but that's normal.

That's probably why you're getting delayed, you were supposed to send in that welfare letter. Actually, it seems likely now that your application will be refused since the sponsor didn't show that he went of welfare. When you guys reapply after the refusal, don't forget it.

OP is still waiting for SA. The file hasn't left Mississauga yet.

And it is absolutely recommended to show proof you are off welfare if you went off welfare within a short time of applying for PR. Sometimes records aren't updated to show people have stopped taking social assistance. Having said that, it's still quite possible the sponsor will be approved in this case. It's just going to take longer because of the social assistance history.

Thank you all for your opinion.
We consulted a lawyer and till recently we weren't aware we need to prove the sponsor is off welfare.
We were advised to attach only documents concerning the present occupation. I guess I would give a call to this lawyer again or maybe CIC. ::)

I read it on Vienna embassy web page.
It says: The visa and immigration section is no longer open for submission of applications, documents, or passports, or any enquiries.

There is no need to call a lawyer or CIC. Call the welfare office and get proof.

Vienna not accepting apps has nothing to do with you at this point, as your app hasn't left Mississauga yet.

Agreed.

I called CIC, the CCR told me I am already approved a week ago and the file has been transferred to Vienna....
I have no clue how this process works but we are very happy.

Thanks a lot everyone!
