An URGENT Question about annual income!

Hello guys,

Just wanted to know that if we MUST put annual income in the employment reference letter as the document checklist says so.

Since I am a hourly-paid employee, my annual income could be very flexible as I could work overtime during busy seasons.


Any thoughts?

Why not get them to put your hourly rate and the number of hours worked, say, per week? Then give an annual income.

eg. $30ph x 40 hours x 52 weeks = $62400

Also ask the employer to say that overtime is available in their letter.

Your total income will be checked anyway by using your tax figures or pay stubs or whatever you submit? Is it NOA? T4?

I may be totally off the mark, someone else can probably clarify better

I think to be on the safe side use last years' NOA as your guide.

Or if you do at least 37.5 hours per week. Use that and do the math for your avg annual income.

yes, need make sure it align with T4 so and any doc which mentioned it. try best to avoid any inconsistency , it will be fine

Thank you for your advice! The problem is that this is my second job, and I started this job in Jan 2014, so I will not have the T4 until next year.

Same thing, 2013 T4 is not a good reference as it is for my first job when I was paid at different paid rate.

So I don't have any doc to show the amount of annual income, can I just say "estimated annual income" would be $xxxx (including vacation pay + overtime )?

nope, then, you will have pay stub , you need give them , and offer letter.

the problem is, they need a number which can be proved or supported by other doc , or else they won't ask for your T4 or others.

and based this number they will calculate your average if match the Canada market salary .

if you can't calculate correct one ,

just give a close one.

e.g you give 80000 and after they calculate the T4 it is 81000 or 79000 , I think it is ok,

but you claim 80000 then your T4 only display 50000 , it would be a trouble.

Hi, I will submit everything I have for sure. I guess they probably will ask for the 2014 T4 in the next year lol

I understand that your point is submitting the payslips and they will calculate the total based on them.

However, I don't have payslips for a whole year, only 8 months

Thank you for your inputs! I have changed jobs once during 2013. So the information on T4 or pay stubs is not enough for them to calculate the annual income for this job due to the possible overtime work in the future...

not lol, yes, many people supplement 2014 T4 later. it is normal.

only 8 months, then you need explain it, and see if can remedy it by ask your boss to send another copy again.

if not.

then explain it, you lost them, and you boss can sign the explain letter too , but you can wait 2014 T4 and will maill when it is ready.

anyway, any left doc need be explained.

and try best to send it when it is ready.

they only evaluate based on the doc you sent, if you don't explain it, they can reject in worst . or some VO will ask for it nicely ( it is really rare , if you check the rule on website of CIC )

The letter of employment should accurately reflect how you are remunerated. If you are paid an hourly wage, then it should state the hourly wage, along with usual hours worked per week. It's OK to add something like "approximate annual earnings of... plus overtime," or something like From MONTH to MONTH 2013, Mr X earned a total of ... "
