Dear All,

I have received a conditional PhD admission letter form Albertra U, and a study permit for 4 years. When I want to start the step 1 registration for Fall 2017, it says "You are not a student for the selected term. Please contact the registration office." When I contacted the registration office they said this is because your admission is a conditional one upon receipt of language proficiency.

Regarding the language proficiency, I studied again and took new exam 3 weeks ago. However my result was 6. When I phoned the registration office they told me I cannot register until providing my IELTS score.

It seems that they will not give me extra time for taking another exam, now I am wondering unitl when I can stay in Canada,

Can I enroll to another university or college etc... during this time?
Can I register for the winter semester 2018?

s.I would be very grateful if you could help me on this matter or let me know about the other ways that I can solve this problem.

explain your situation to the university officials and see whether you could buy some time or see if you could defer your admission to the winter term take the test again and go for it.

I already send an email to my supervisor, and I'm waiting for her answer, Hope she can help me.

But what if they don't give me time, what should I do?

If something goes wrong god forbid I think you have to take the test and apply it for the next term all over again I'm sorry if that happens I know how much it means because I didn't get admission in uoa. Best of luck....

You should ask if you can defer your admission till January. Then study and take the IELTS again. A PhD in U of Alberta is an opportunity you mustn't miss. Many people competed but failed to get into that Uni. IELTS can be a bit tricky, otherwise why would you have 6? My advice, when taking a new one, be conversant with past exams and attempt to try out some online free exams ahead of the exam. All the best!

Do you have a TRV or ETA?

You mean after make sure about defer, then I can go to Canada?

Because I already have my study permit.

Why not go to Canada first and see if you can take your IELTS from there? At the same time, send a letter to your supervisor and department to see if a deferral is possible based on your present circumstance. I hope that solves your issue which is minor by the way, compared to a rejected study visa application. All the best!

You will have to see whether you are granted a study permit now that U of A has withdrawn your offer for September. I would see if you can defer until January They may only be able defer for next September because they need TAs and have funding that must be used starting this September. This also puts the department and your supervisor in a bit of a predicament since they were expecting you in September. I would study in your home country and take the test as early as possible after you feel prepared. I think the university will not be willing to wait until a month before classes to get your language scores again.
