Well, I dont know if im posting this in the correct thread but i have a few questions regarding applying for a study permit as an american.
I was recently accepted under condition to Brock University however i took a test for the course that held me back and passed so now im sending the info to Brock and will most likely get my full acceptance.
One of my questions i have for americans who've applied for student visa to Canada (preferably for those who actually went to the border to do it since thats what im planning on doing.)
-Do I really need a medical exam? For the past year I've only travelled to Canada..Should i get one done now thats from a office approved by CIC? or should i not worry about it? How long would it take?
-I understand that June is early to go to the border and apply for a permit however can i enter as a visitor to move my stuff into a place that im gonna start paying with my GF this May? Ive heard that i can still apply for a permit however my reasons need to be genuine/ reasonable for early entry. Will list my reasons below to see if they seem reasonable:
>Will start paying rent on May 1st, already put in my deposit for my last month rent. (can provide contract i signed for the house we're renting)
>Me and GF plan on marrying as soon as i gain entry (another post ive made recently goes into depth what we're planning on doing)
>I will have financial support from parents for the summer that I would be there (1k Canadian if it helps knowing)
>I need to open a bank account with TD for transfers that my parents will do and have a phone that works in Canada, all in which will be with my GF
>I need to meet an academic adviser in person after June 15th to rearrange my classes. Im going into computer science but i was told if i wanted to go into something more specific, i would need to meet a academic adviser to make sure things go smoothly. which i will be doing.
>GF and me have a photography company thats growing a bit, I have money saved up so when i get there in June we can buy a few things we needed for our company to expand more. Her bank is waiting for my signature to be in our small business account
>I was lucky enough to get 2 recommendations to work at best buy from employees (managers of their section of the store) and i wanted to attend the interviews personally, even though i would start in September. If i dont get the job, i want to still apply for work and start working in September.
>I want to explore the area more since im bringing my car
Many or even all of these are for personal interest for early entry with my student visa but yea. What do you think?
Can i still enter Canada as a visitor with half of my things during June, then buy whatever else in Canada?
What is the process time for getting a student visa at the border?
If i go into Canada as a visitor, can i go to the border around August to apply for my student visa?
What exactly do i need to apply? I know CIC has a check list but is there a source that is also reliable to know what they did? especially about the medical exam.
is there a number that i may call to get more info? Canadian Border #? CIC?
thank you
