jeff198901 said:How does an American change their last name in Canada after marriage?
keesio said:Was the name changed via marriage already and it is a matter of updating documentation?
jeff198901 said:Name has not yet been changed. We are getting married march 3. She still has her maiden name. I'm just wondering how we change it
jeffporfirio1 said:Its simple just go to your local registry, fill out a form..in 3 weeks you get a provincial certificate of name change
jeff198901 said:Do I have to do anything in the USA? Or anything in regards to my permanent residency?
jeffporfirio1 said:The name change will be valid for you canadian documents, provincial and federal
jeff198901 said:Thanks! So she can fill out all the PR forms with her maiden name and just change her name once she gets PR?
jeffporfirio1 said:She'll have to change her PR card after the name change (and drivers license and health card), which is ultra simple, but yes, that easy

jeff198901 said:Thank you! Can a Canadian PR get a Canadian passport?
jeffporfirio1 said:I would recommend the following:
- Finish PR process with maiden name, no reason to burden CIC process now
- Once she has PR, change her name - simple done at a registry
- Change PR card, drivers licence and health card - this is also relatively simple
No, Passport only for citizens, wait a few years
