I first landed with my husband in Canada in 28 June 2008, we stayed untill 14 August 2008, we had to leave Canada for personal reasons. Now, we decided to settle after we gained enough money to enable us to start a business in Canada, we plan to travel on the first of August 2011, are we complying with the residency obligations or we'll be questioned by immigration officers upon arrival?
Can anyone answer me, please? :)

If you have been outside Canada for too long, you can apply for a PR travel document through any Canadian embassy. You will tell them that you do not meet the residency requirements and explain your humane & compassionate reasons why you should still keep your PR.

I can not tell you what the odds are to keep your PR. In most cases, they just look at the reasons why you left and what kept you away back then. In 1998, you would have lost your PR after only 6 months away. It is also possible that they will take your current situation into account.

For a case like this, I would contact a good immigration lawyer. Sometimes, actions we take in trying to restore residency inadvertently mess up our chances.
