After receiving file number what is the time frame.

Hi can someone please advice....I applied in march 2008 and got my file number from Buffalo on June 2008. I currently live in the U.S. How long do I have to wait for the next step. It is almost 10months since I got the file number. My case currently shows IN Process when i check the application status. Should I be worried or is this time frame normal. Also what is the next step and how long do I wait before going to canada. I do appreciate any advice. Thanks....
