Hi everyone,

I've already landed and I do have a few questions just to make sure everything is ok. I am a sponsored spouse from Philippines. My COPR and passport visa stamp are valid from 12-Sep-2018 to 8-Jan-2019. My flight was on 24-Sep-2018 at NAIA Terminal 3 (Manila, PH). I had 2 stopovers (Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport and Toronto Pearson International Airport) before I reached Halifax Stanfield International Airport on 25-Sep-2018.

1. Does Immigration/CBSA checks only happens on major airports? Toronto Pearson International Airport was just my stopover but the Immigration/CBSA checked my COPR and passport on 24-Sep-2018 and asked a few questions there. When I arrived in Halifax Stanfield International Airport, I just followed the crowd to the Luggage Conveyor Belt and out to the airport lobby. I'm worried I missed a step in the airport.

2. If it's like that, does it mean my official first landing is in Toronto and on 24-Sep-2018?

3. I only had my phone, laptop and 2 big luggage for my clothes and shoes, and no to follow items. I downloaded and filled-up the B4 form but no one checked it. Is this alright? There is only this one form everyone(immigrants/visitors/citizens) filled-up in the plane and presented to an officer.

4. How do I apply for a Government Health Insurance Card? In Toronto, the Immigration/CBSA officer said something about me getting my Medical/Health Insurance after (90 something/3 months?). Do I still have to apply here in Nova Scotia to get one or does the officer mean I already have to wait for it?

Also, just to let you guys know, I already went to Service Canada here in Halifax to get my Social Insurance Number(SIN) on 28-Sep-218. I only had to present my COPR and passport, and answer a few simple questions like am I born in or outside Canada, if it's my first time getting a SIN, my father's name, my mother's maiden name. It's really fast and easy. I think it was only around 15-20 mins then I got my SIN. Please note that they no longer issue the card, they will only give you a paper with your SIN on it.

5. Is it ok to open a bank account later when I get official work? Is it recommended to open one now?

Please let me know if there are any other things I missed to do.
Thank you.

~Mina :)

3. If CBSA at Pearson didn't ask you to present your B4, you need not worry about it any longer.
4. Your health cover is provincial, so you will need to register where you are residing. The advice at Pearson was OHIP (Ontario) specific.
5. Open the bank account as soon as you settle on your residential location. No need to wait until you have a job. Also start building a new credit history as soon as possible. You will need to consider applying for a credit card of some kind to get you started.
