Due to timing, future commitments an finance i have decided to do an upfront medical.

I know some people are against them, so if anybody has advice or tips on how to make sure it runs smoothly please let me know.

Out of interest how much do medicals in Canada tend to cost?

thanks in advance

I paid $400 for my IME in Alberta.

we did our upfront medical recently (10 days ago) in Etobicoke area and they changed around 170$ + 37$ (for x-ray).

I had mixed experience but I am still waiting for my medical data/reports to be uploaded.

Regards,

Sure. The only bad experience is that the lady at the front was doing too many typeo. She mis-spelled our surname etc.

Lucky, that I observed it on the same day. Rest all went good and we were out in an hour.

For x-ray, we got it done in another location.

Regards,

I did mine in Kitchener (single applicant) for $140 (examination) + about $8 (blood test) + about $40 (x-ray).
So approx $190 in total.

If you are a July applicant, you have still long way to go. It doesn't look like a good idea to take a medical exam now.
The reason is that the effective days of Copr is the same as the effective days of your recent medical examination.
I hope you know that the Copr is the document that confirms you are a PR issued by CIC and it's the document finalizing your struggle with CIC.

For example, based on the average time line of 13 months, if you take medical exam in Sept' and 11 months later, finally you get the Copr, then your Copr would have only 1 month of time to be effective, which means you have to finish your landing in 1 month or have to have another Medical Exam for the Copr Only. If the process takes more time in the worst case, your medical may be expired for Copr, and CIC would ask you to take medical exam only for Copr.

It's up to you, wish all the best man.

P.s) I took mine in Kitchener. They are kind and the price was very decent. And the result was uploaded exactly on the fourth date. I don't hesitate to recommend them to you. I hope you to find the best place for you.

I am not actually taking the medical just yet, i am holding off for a few months at least. The point of this thread was mainly just to gather as much information on upfront medicals as i could.

Personally i would rather not do an upfront, but i am not sure what my plans will be come next year so i figured id just get it out of the way. I appreciate all your comments though. Thank you.

Also if you do an upfront do you still get an official medical request? Or do you just eventually find your status on ecas updated to 'Medicals received' ?

Hi,
sometime people also get the Medical request after their upfront medicals were done. That probably depends on the VO if he noticed you did it upfront or not. In that case you just scan your receipt (which you get while doing your medicals) and send it to CIC.

What if I am June applicant and having upfront medical in Nov? Coz I will be in my home country where medical exam would be much cheaper.

Good Idea, Better do it in your home country ...

Min medical cost in canada is 196$ if you are in toronto or kitchner.

YOu can complete medicals 1/4 of canada cost

Do you know how much it will cost in Metro Vancouver?

Just checked with the designated clinics in my home country, it will cost ~C$300 to do the test. (they said Canadian consulate regulates the fee!)
