Hello,

I am planning on moving to Canada from the US to be with my boyfriend but we know nothing about Canadian immigration. I did the pre-evaluation test to see if I would be approved and I won't. Any tips on how I can improve my chances of being approved?

I am a college graduate with a 7 years professional experience but speak minimal French :/

Your bf can only begin process to sponsor you as a family member if you are married or officially common-law (having lived together for 12 consecutive months).

You could move to Canada temporarily under a study or work permit (US citizens can get an OWP via SWAP program, or a closed work permit if they have a job offer that qualifies under NAFTA).

If you don't get a work or study permit, all you can do is visit. Not "move" here. If you tried to simply enter Canada with a bunch of your belongings and minimal or no ties back to USA, you could find yourself denied entry. If you do enter Canada as a visitor, typically you get 6 months visitor status upfront and can apply to extend that from within Canada as needed.
