We were married at the end of September. Jordan is a Canadian citizen living in Canada and Cinthya is a Peruvian currently living in the United States. We just looked up how long it will take for me to get a spousal visa and are despondent that we will have to be apart for 12 months. We would like to go to Peru in February to celebrate with Cinthya’s family and then have Cinthya join Jordan in Canada.
Given the length of time it takes to get the spousal visa, should Cinthya apply for a tourist visa so that we can be together? If necessary, Cinthya can return to Peru after six months for a visit. We see that she can also apply for an extension of that tourist visa once she is in Canada.
If Cinthya enters on a tourist visa, will that impact our application for a spousal visa?
Thank you for your help with this matter. We would like to be together as quickly as possible but want to do it correctly.
Thank you,
