Hi all,
Please bare with us as this is all completely new to us and don't understand the process as there is so much advice being offered on Google that we are baffled with it.
Our information is:
We were born and have lived in the UK all our lives and are looking to immigrate to Alberta.
My husband will be 44 years old in March 2020, his working experience is 20 years as a Welder and served a 4 year apprenticeship with full City & Guilds Certifications from College. He has also worked for SIEMENS Wind Power on the Wind Turbines on and offshore for 5 years.
I am 37 years old and have worked in Office Admin for 20 years with City & Guilds Certifications from College and have worked in Admin at a Veterinary Clinic for the last 14 years.
We have 2 children aged 6 years and 12 years old that would be coming with us.
We are unsure if our City & Guilds Certificates are classed as any formal education in Canada or could be used in the points scheme for ALBERTA?
Our understanding is we would need to carry out the language test but unsure if we would need to take the academic module or the training module as there is 2 options?
Any advice would be very much appreciated on any step-by-step guides or the best route to go down with our information and experience. (We would be grateful if you could not use abbreviations therefore we can understand what we need to do).
Thank you for your time in reading our post and look forward to being pointed in the right direction.

Information for Alberta's programs and guides on how to apply can be found on the provincial web site here:

https://www.alberta.ca/ainp.aspx

If you are looking for step by step assistance or for someone to work with you to identify which program to apply for, then you will need to hire a Canadian immigration lawyer to help you through the process. You should budget around $3-$5K for this. If you want to do it yourself, then unfortunately there's really no short-cut to extensive research and reading on your own - this includes educating yourself on the various acronyms and terms.

For the language test - you need to take the general (not academic).

I think you are right to be looking into the provincial programs rather than the federal program (Express Entry). Based on the information you have provided, I don't think you would have enough points (470+) to be selected through the federal program directly.

Good luck.

I can tell you that welding is not a high demand job in Alberta right now. I see 10-15 unsolicited resumes a week. Be prepared for an extended job search in that field.

My husband was hoping to continue working in the wind turbine industry. Our understanding is the American wind turbine engineers come over here to the UK for training so we were hoping his qualifications and training would be transferable.

Hi there,
For PNP it states that we would have to have already been actively working in Alberta to gain the PNP or be eligible for selection? I could be wrong but this is how I understood it... Please feel free to correct me as its so much to take onboard.
