Hello Im new to this forum and really need some advice.

I am Scottish and hold a British passport. My husband is Mexican and we have both lived in Mexico for 7 years. We have been married 1 year. We have always wanted to work in Canada and being 29 have decided this is the time. I have been doing as much research as possible and its looking harder than I fist thought. At first we were going to apply for Working Holiday Visas but have since read that we must be students. What is the best option for us. Its seeming hard to get job offers from outside Canada. Is it possible to enter on tourist visas and then look for jobs and pay for a lawyer to assist us. We are financially ok to last a few months without working.

My husband speaks french and i have a cousin who is a Canadian citizen, if that makes a difference. We also have many good references from Canadian citizens who we are very close with or who we have worked with in the past.

Please help with advice, we would like to get this move done by the summer time.

Thanks in advance for your help.

You did not mention what are the education and job experiences you have. However, check on the CIC site whether you qualify to immigrate to Canada. It is always safe to enter Canada on a PR visa, work visa or as a provincial nominee if your cousin lives in a province where PNP is currently applicable and if you are eligible.

Just a FYI, it's going to be very difficult for your husband to get a visitor's visa. He cannot travel on passport alone. He must apply for a temporary resident visa and unfortunately, his country men have abused the visitor's process in Canada - making it harder for others.

Finding a job once you're in Canada as a visitor won't be any easier. Many employers simply do not hire foreign workers. Depending your or your husband's work/trades, there may be some options available... but take it from me. It's not easy getting a job as a foreigner. My former company even has offices here in Canada. I scored #1 in my entire company for Q1 2011. Still can't get hired by my former company. Or similiar companies. Or even WalMart!

If either of you is a skilled tradesman or certified for childcare, a few more options open up.

Do keep in mind, if you get a job with a qualifying skill level, your husband will have an easier time getting into Canada and also getting a work permit, so there is good news.
