Hi everyone. I just got a refusal for my CAQ renewal and I’m really confused. My current CAQ, issued in late 2023, is still valid until April 2026.

I had withdrawn from my first university in early 2025 due to some personal and academic difficulties. I went back to my home country in March while waiting for a new valid study permit for another Québec university. My new permit was approved in April, and I returned in May to resume full-time studies.

I submitted all documents: proof of lawful status, letter explaining the gap in my studies, full-time enrolment, insurance coverage, financials, and travel stamps, but MIFI refused saying my explanations weren’t satisfactory.

Has anyone had their CAQ refusal reversed or gone through the administrative review process successfully? Any advice would mean a lot.

So your CAQ expired months ago in April 2025. The issue may be is that you changed schools and dropped out from your first school without authorization so you were not renewing a CAQ. You needed to apply for a new CAQ. Does your study permit list your current DLI?

Contact your university advisor about next steps because you can no longer study if CAQ is refused.

Im sorry, there was a typing mistake. It expires April next year. My new study permit linked to my current DLI expires then too. I have been doing the renewal process in advance.
