Advice for first steps in applying for a Skilled Migrant program

Hi all,

I'm based in New Zealand and the closest CIS office is in Sydney, Australia.

I've read conflicting advice online about the ideal location for your immigration consultant/lawyer. Would it be best to use someone in my country, someone close to the closest CIS office, or someone in Canada?

I would say someone closest to you will be always better

Another option is to file without an immigration lawyer/consultant. Many people here have DIY.
