Hi,

I'm currently doing all sorts of research into moving to Canada. I noticed on the category classification that administration assistants are a category B, and therefore considered a skilled position.

For some reason I find it hard to believe and I wonder 'what is the catch?'. Administrative work is not all that difficult, not in comparison to other skilled work that requires good education. (I have been in administration for a few years).

Perhaps I am being a little unfair toward some who might find it challenging, but I would have thought it would be a category C position.

Does anyone have any experience on securing work like this? I'm currently residing in the UK with at least 2 years experience in administration.

Many thanks,

Nadia.

It is all about whether your job duties map to the job duties in the NOC database not just the title. I mean and no disrespect to anyone but another example I always find it a stretch that someone supervising food prep and staff in a McDonalds can qualify potentially as a NOC B Food Service Supervisor.

Securing work of course in Canada as an admin assistant might be a different challenge but that comes later. There are plenty of anomalies in the system like this where the job duties versus reality might be questioned.

If you feel confident that your job duties map to the NOC for admin assistant and you are committed to follow through the lengthy process then why not go for it.

Hiya, thanks for your informative answer. Yes, having looked at some numerous other sources it does look like it is possible which is promising news. I think I will. :) Thank you.

I did my application under noc 1241 administrative assistant (not a secretary), I think it depends in what you do, I don't really believe this is hard to do, for example I have to prepare documents to export live animals to foreign countries. I need to do a research every time we are sending a shipment, read the law, read the rules of export and import..
Is really difficult to do? No.
Everyone can do it? I think so
One of my friends is under the same noc, her main duties are answer the phones, answer emails, receive invoices, pay suppliers.
We both have prior experience in administration.
Check if the noc 1241 works for you

Sounds good. How long did it take you to find work over there and get the application through from start to finish?

My case is a little different, I was already working in Canada under a different program. First I got my job and then I applied to pnp.
If you do your application under EE the whole process is around 6 months.
Find a job under this NOC I is not difficult, there is several opportunities for administrative assistants (check on indeed)
Where are you from? Maybe you can apply for a different program
