Hi,

My spousal sponsor (in Canada) and I (from USA) just sent our application with the new forms off, with medical and police certificate this month on the 3rd. We haven't got any information back yet but we suspect the process will take us ~12 months to get a PR.

My lease with my apartment in the USA is up in August and I'll probably end up living with a friend until the PR goes through, at which time I'll be moving in with my wife in Canada. My question is in regards to address changes. We opt'd in for e-mail correspondence, but what type of documents would they send to the primary applicants physical address? I was told the PR card and all of that gets sent to my wife's Canadian address, is this true? Her address will not change and it's the same address we listed as the one I'll be living at in Canada upon landing. Should I be worried? What are the steps for informing them of a different applicant address? I plan to drive up to land at the border.

I'm hoping it gets done before Aug of this year and I don't have to worry but that's only 8 months away, so doubtful. Thanks for the help.

If you need to update any information on your application, including address, submit a Case Specific Enquiry (IRCC Webform): https://secure.cic.gc.ca/enquiries-renseignements/canada-case-cas-eng.aspx

Thanks. Do you know how long this takes for them to process? The reason is more or less timing than anything. Like I said my lease is up in August this year but what exactly do they send via mail to the applicant? The PR card goes to the sponsor, right?

If you marked you want email communication, most items should be sent by email....especially if you link your app on MyCIC. In the past, occasionally communication has been sent by mail.

I'm not super familiar with what documents are sent out for Outland applicants....but letters stating they got your app is common-one for sponsor and one for applicant. And any approval or request letters. They'll request a copy of your passport --pretty sure it goes to applicant, but not 100% sure...and the PR card is only generated after you are granted PR--for outland, you are given a COPR letter that you will bring with you when crossing to land in Canada, so it would probably go to the Canadian address. But i believe all communication can come by email.

I don't think it takes too long to update the address....should be done with in 10 business days.

They send the COPR to the PA, pretty much the most important document of the process. You need to make sure that you have the correct mailing address on file.

The PR card is send to whatever Canadian address you give the CBSA officer when you land.

What did you put for your residential address then? You mention you listed a Canadian address, or is that just for the after landing question?

Assuming you put your current mailing address in the US for your residence and mailing, yes you need to have your address forwarded or changed as soon as you know where you are living. It's unlikely the process will take as long as you think. Usually US applicants are getting through in 4 months. However, nothing is certain since they changed the application forms and times.

Hopefully you're right and I can get it done before my lease is up (that's the goal)! I also provided my PCC and EMedical upfront already so I'm hoping that, combined with new forms, it'll be fast; more even since I'm American. Thanks for the update, if I don't hear anything back by July I'll have them update my address to my parents address in the meantime before my lease is up - that way I can be sure to get any documents I need. My wife's residential is the sponsor address in canada

Thank you.
