Additional income with closed visa allowed?

Hi. I am a temporary resident (in Québec) with a closed visa. I am a software developer and work exclusively for one company.

I would like to create a mobile app and sell it. Does anyone know if I would be allowed to sell my app despite my closed visa? Since I wouldn’t take anyone’s job away (neither I would have a different employer) and I would declare it properly on my income tax, would that be allowed?

Any help is highly appreciated!

I think this is covered in regulation SOR-2002-227. It says my closed work visa is bound to an employer and I am only allowed to work for that employer. Sure, that is well defined. But when I sell my app, I wouldn't have another employer, not even I would count as an employer because it's not a business (I think)

Then I found (What is considered work?)

Pay includes money or commission:
  • you receive for a service, or
  • you receive for any other activity.
But I am not sure how to interpret that for my case. Is anyone experienced with this?
