Accompanying together as a family

Hi all..
I received an admission letter from college in Alberta. I planned to take my spouse and kid with me through visitor visa.
1. After arrival, Can I change the visa status for my spouse and kid?
2. Will they refuse my spouse open work permit? If so, under what conditions they will reject?
3. Applying all together as a family for visa from India is advisable or not?

Please give your suggestions..

(Note: We have enough proof of funds and also we have a strong document that we will return back to our home country)
