OK... hopefully a simple one....

I am a UK citizen, I landed in Canada in 1992 sponsored by my Canadian spouse and had permanent residency.
(I have the record of landing document and old passport)
We lived and worked in Canada until 1996 and then left to live in the UK.
We now have two kids, both UK and Canada dual nationals, my spouse is also UK and Canadian.
My spouse still has family in Canada and I have passport stamps for visits most years since we left.
As we return for visits we don't have any issues at immigration.
We are now considering returning to Canada to live.
My spouse and kids all have right to reside in Canada as citizens but I'm not sure about my PR status.

From the other posts and the reasonably informative Canada Immigration website.........

1. As I was with my spouse who is a Canadian citizen does my PR status remain ?

2. Would I be able to apply for a vacancy that says I must be legally able to work in Canada before returning ?

3. Would it be sensible to apply for a Permanent Resident Abroad (IMM5529) ? (and how long are they valid for )

Thanks in advance...

1. Yes

2. Yes. Do you still have a SIN? You need your SIN in order to work.

3. They are valid for 6 months but as you are visa exempt, you don't need one. They are just to allow you re-entry to Canada. Instead of that, just move and once you are in Canada, you can apply for a PR card.

Thanks Leon, very helpful.

Yes, I do still have a SIN (and an expired medicare card!) (and a deferred pension plan....)

Best wishes...
