When it comes to funds, if you almost havethe needed amount in your account for tution and housing for 1 year and someone from the family paid for your first year of study using a credit card, would it improve your chances of getting a visa?

You have to prove that you have sufficient funds for First year tuition + 10000 C$ for living + 3000 C$ for traveling. Show them the fee receipt for first year tuition.........

So basically they don't care who paid for my tution as long as I show them a recipt and bank statment that I have enough money for a 1 year?

It is better to show the source of income.If you are doing job then your job letter and payslips and if some one sponsoring you then his affidavit and job or business documents.
