So I have been waiting to become a resident for going on 3 years now. My husband received a letter today stating that he has met the requirements for eligibility as a sponsor and that my application for permanent residence will be processed separately and that I should hear from them shortly. What does this letter mean? Does it mean that the 1st step is done? Is this a normal process? And if anyone has gone through this what usually happens after this? Thanx.

Your stage one is done, your sponsor has been approved, that's what we call SA. Now it's moving on to your part. Yes, it's normal. Now it will be forwarded to the VO that processes your country's applications.

You would soon be receiving an email from CIC asking to send the complete application. CIC would request medicals at the 2nd stage, I guess.

I already sent in my whole application fro! 2012 and my medical doesnt expire until august 2015. They did email me asking for a third medical this was before receiving the letter for the first stage they should not ask at all. Hopefully its jus a mistake.
