Hi.

I have a few completely different questions regarding spousal sponsorship.

I'm from Sweden and is currently living in BC on a study permit and are taking full time studies. I have been living with my Canadian fiance and her daughter for over a year now and we are getting married in the beginning of August and is going to apply for the sponsorship then.
Do you guys know if I can still apply for my post grad work permit while applying for the sponsorship? Just if anyone knows if there are issues between those two.

The bigger question is, if this will cause any problems.
I moved to BC with my ex-wife (we both studied) and we lived together here in Canada for about 6 months, but our relationship ended around December 2010(it had been downward a few years and we really just decided we both had enough at this point, not harsh feelings, we just needed to move on). But we were so loaded up with school work that our divorced wasn't cleared with Swedish government until last November, by the time I already had lived with my fiance for more then 7 months. Do you think this will become a major issue on the application? Of course I will explain it in the attachment with the divorce papers.

I bet it wont be an issue, but it´s one of those things you can´t get out of your mind and it kind of distracts me from my finals right now. Both of them has met and there is nothing else then friendship between all of us, since I was totally honest about my situation from day 1 with my fiance.

Ok, sorry for the tangent. I hope someone might have a tip :)

Cheers!

Congratulations on your impending nuptials. You do realize that you could submit the application now based upon what you have described (you qualify as "common law" and do not have to wait until you are married, although the latter bit does give you some very strong evidence of relationship.)

You can still apply for your post grad work permit. This is known as "dual intent" and is allowed. The two applications are not related and do not affect each other (let's see, at the present time I have one work permit, one judicial review application for my PR rejection and one spousal sponsored application all alive and kicking.)

No, this will not affect your application. Even without the divorce, you still qualify for a common-law relationship (one can be in a common-law relationship even if you are not legally allowed to be married, such as a situation you described.)

You would win that bet - you are fine. Better to focus on your finals (you won't get that post graduate work permit if you don't graduate and THAT would be the worst possible outcome.)

Best of luck finishing your studies, your new job and your marriage.
