Hi everyone, I have 2 unrelated questions that I figure someone here can answer for me.

1) My husband was approved as my sponsor at the end of December 2014. I am an US Citizen and we are wondering about how long it will be before I am approved. We ended up having to re-do our application after sending in an inland application last spring. My application is now an outland application that was received on October 16, 2014.

2) we have a Canadian friend who married a Cuban wife. Our friend was approved as sponsor around the beginning of February 2015. He knows for sure that his wife will have an interview due to red flags. He thinks there is only one red flag, they are about 48 years apart in age. She just turned 31 and he is nearly 79. I know from reading this forum that several other areas have red flags as well but all our friend is focused on is the age difference. He is wondering how far in the process of going through her application will they decide to set up an interview and how long will it take for that interview to happen. Once an interview happens how long is the normal wait time to know the decision that was made.

Thanks for any responses

Not sure why no one has any help for me in my questions as of yet. I really do want to know if anyone from the USA has found it to be a lot shorter process than the timelines suggest. And our friend is asking my husband quite often how long of a wait he has until his wife would have an interview and how long it would take to get the decision from CIC once the interview happens.

Hope everyone has a good day. God Bless

From what I've seen in the forum, those who have had interviews, it was over a year. I hope some of the senior members have more insight for you.

1. I presume as a U.S. citizen your app is being processed in Ottawa. Last year they were processing US applicants around the 6 month mark however, things have slowed down considerably since the new year. If you check the ottawa thread you will get an idea of how long it's taking at the moment. Times on the CIC website are usually not that accurate. There is also a spreadsheet which you can add yourself to which gives an average for processing times.

2. Check the Havana thread on the forum as those who applied through that office will have an idea of timelines.

Seems like timelines for US citizens are up to what they were in 2013 - which is 6-8 months on average. In the summer of 2014, things were blazing along and people were done in 3-4 months! But alas it did not last for long.

As for your friend's case - yes an interview seems likely. The age difference is not just large but it is huge and combined with the fact that CIC has Cuba on its list of places where there are high incidents of immigration fraud. How much an interview will add to the timelines I'm not sure but brucem's suggestion of checking out the Havana thread is a good one.

Thanks everyone. So do you think I may hear something on my application sometime this summer, they received it October 16 2014 for the outland application. As to the Havana thread it is so much to take in I have looked at some of it but can't get much around interview timelines and how long it would take after an interview for a decision to be made. I guess I will keep looking or maybe post my question there for our friend. Be Blessed.

I would say that mid-summer 2015 is quite reasonable
