I'm currently an international graduate student at University A, but I'm going to University B starting from this Sept, in order to change my major. Therefore I'll need to withdraw from my current program at Univ A.

I was wondering if it is OK for me to withdraw from Univ A at the end of April, because I'd like to spend my time from May to Aug for self-study in the new field. I also want to know if there's any impact on my study permit by doing so.

I have read some posts last year, and it was said that this gap would not be allowed by the proposed changes in Jan 2014. For now, in the outlines of new changes announced in Feb, there is "Applicants must enroll in and continue to pursue studies in Canada. Failure to do so could lead to removal from Canada." I'm not sure how to interpret this.

I've asked two advisors at the international student service of Univ A, and they both told me that I'd be OK to withdraw at the end of April.

I'm so confused but couldn't get access to CIC. Is there any help or advice here? Thanks a lot.

Some other facts to be considered:

Students in my current program are required to register full-time throughout the year, including spring (May to Jun) and summer (July to Aug). But I'm leaving any way.

I have already got an admission from Univ B, but it seems that the registration will not be available until this Jul or Aug.

I entered Canada in Aug 2013, and have been in full-time study from Sept 2013 to April 2014. My study permit will expire at 31 Mar, 2016.
