Hi everyone,

I’m looking for others who might be in the same situation—or anyone who can offer advice.

I’m a refugee claimant in Canada. I submitted my claim in October 2024, and it was referred to the IRB the very next day. I completed my immigration medical exam and passed later that same month.

As most people know, refugee claimants typically receive an open work permit within 1–2 months after medicals. But it’s now been over 8 months, and I still haven’t received mine. I’ve done everything properly, yet there has been no decision, no update, and no explanation from IRCC.

I’ve called IRCC multiple times, and even involved my Member of Parliament (MP). Eventually, the MP was told by an IRCC agent that the officer simply forgot or missed processing my work permit. IRCC admitted it was an internal error. They said they would contact the responsible office and fix it—and told me to wait 10–15 business days. And i waited 15 business days again and nothing happens for me! Well, those days have now passed. Still nothing.
No email. No decision. No movement.

I’m sharing this here in case anyone else went through the same thing.

Did IRCC ever fix it for you?

Did it take a mandamus application?

Did your MP help at all?

Thank you
