Hello, I applied for 1 year PG program in George Brown, but it actually lasts for 8 months, not 1 year...
Then I'd like to apply for a work permit, usually the work permit duration will be the same as the duration of study, so will the work permit be for 1 year or 8 months?

Are you sure? some people say 8, some people say 1 year

what is the right duration?

1 Academic year= 2 SEM/ 8 months, as per CIC. 2 Academic years= 4 SEM/ 16 months. So, as per rule... passing out from a 2 SEM/8 months (1 acd. year) should give you a 1 year PGWP.

However, many people say that studying 8 months will only give you 8 months PGWP, as those 8 months are usually at a stretch (with no summer term/ break) and hence does not complete duration of full 1 year. If you study 8 months/2 SEM + co-op of 1 full term/4 months... then you will get for sure 12 months PGWP or your PGWP total duration will be of 8 months+ number of months spent doing co-op/intern.

People in Canada, 've told me... majority get 1 year PGWP, even after completing 2 SEM/8months courses. But, it really depends on individual circumstances and comes down to the credit hours of your course, and the VO issuing the PGWP visa.

So basically you get a work permit for the amount of period of study, but they also give three months extra after graduation.

This is my third work permit and its the same with study permit.

So since you studied for 8 months you will get a work permit for 1 year, my program of study currently is for a year and I got a year and 3 months.

Students graduating from an eight-month certificate program would only be eligible for a work permit of eight months.
