One of my friend got 5 year ban in alberta for reapplying due to misinterpretion.

My question is can he apply direct for express entry or that ban will affect his file.

The 5 year ban applies to everything. He is inadmissible to Canada until the ban is up.

He can't apply for anything for five years. This includes Express Entry, work permits, visitor visas, study permits, etc. He needs to forget about Canada for five years.

At federal stage, you have to list out any ban you got from pnp...so it will affect your file.
