Since you're the sponsor, you're fine to travel :)

Parker..how long can the sponsor travel for?? Im planning on taking a 4month vaca. to see hubby after approval...

Citizens can travel for as long as they want from my understanding. PR's can travel, as long as they aren't MOVING as they need to live in Canada in order to sponsor a spouse. I'm not 100% on the PR thing, I know citizens are able to travel for as long as they want because I asked a consultant when we first started and that's what she told me(Since I'm the CDN haha) :)

thank you guys

PR card holder have to be in Canada for 6months+ to be eligible, but being outside for a lengthy period can arise questions like "do you plan to stay in Canada"?

1. Pray tell where you find "PR card holder have to be in Canada for 6months+ to be eligible" in the Act or Regulations?
2. PR sponsor must reside in Canada from the date of the sponsorship to the date of the "landing"

Sponsor

130. (1) Subject to subsections (2) and (3), a sponsor, for the purpose of sponsoring a foreign national who makes an application for a permanent resident visa as a member of the family class or an application to remain in Canada as a member of the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class under subsection 13(1) of the Act, must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident who

(a) is at least 18 years of age;

(b) resides in Canada; and

(c) has filed a sponsorship application in respect of a member of the family class or the spouse or common-law partner in Canada class in accordance with section 10.

Short holidays okay, anything longer then you can usually expect a refusal.

Yes that's "exactly" as I understood it. PR sponsors must RESIDE in Canada from date of sponsorship to landing. Doesn't mean you can't 'vacay', but as PMM has alluded to... a CIC officer could very quickly say "Four months!? That's not a vacation, that's residing outside of Canada." << sound of refusal stamp on hollow table echoing through your nightmares thereafter >>
