Hi!

This is a Chinese one-semester exchange student who want to US for travelling. When I came to Canada, my visa was single-entry visa, and since I will stay in CA for less than 6 months, I do not have study permit.

I wonder do I need: (1) a US visa to go to US, and (2) another Canadian visa to return back to Canada? (If so, how can I submit for a Canadian visa within Canada?)

The phone number of immigration bureau is too hard to reach, so I wonder there might be somebody know the answer. Thanks in advance. <3

1)Chinese passport holders need a visa to visit the USA
2)as you are not in Canada on a study permit and you only have a single entry TRV then you would need to apply for a new TRV. I would suggest after you resolve (1) first.

Given the limited time you are in the country not sure whether you could achieve both 1 and 2. You could I guess achieve 1 and return home direct from the US.

1. Actually the OP doesn't require a new TRV to return to Canada, as long as s/he only visits the US or St. Pierre et Miquelon, and returns within the validity of their visitor status, then they don't require a new TRV.

Single-entry visa
The single-entry visa

  • allows the foreign national to enter Canada only once during the visa’s period of validity;
  • may be issued up to six months before the expected date of travel;
  • should have an expiry date of at least one month after the expected date of arrival in Canada.
Note: A temporary resident who entered Canada on a single-entry visa may re-enter Canada following a visit solely to the United States or St. Pierre et Miquelon within the period initially authorized for their stay in Canada [R190(3)(f)]."

Thanks for correction PMM , the challenge still remains for the OP to get a US visa in whatever time they have left
