I had two hearings for my case—one in September 2024 and another in February 2025. After the first hearing, the member told us that a second session was needed. In the second hearing, neither my wife nor I were asked many questions—just three in total. Instead, the member mainly questioned my lawyer, who was completely unprepared and couldn’t respond properly. A minor argument happened between them, and the member told the lawyer he needed to be better prepared.

At the end of the session, the member asked the lawyer for an oral submission, but the lawyer refused and said he would send it in writing after the hearing. He submitted it two weeks later. The member told us that once he received the written submission, he would issue a decision right away.

However, it’s now been four months, and we still haven’t received any decision. We contacted our lawyer, who submitted a request for follow-up. I also contacted IRCC, and they told me that they’ve reminded the member multiple times, but the delay is on his end and not from the immigration department.

Has anyone gone through a similar experience recently? If so, what was the outcome—positive or negative? And how long did it take after the final hearing to get a decision?

Not a common situation but does happen. Impossible for anyone to anticipate the outcome.

Honestly, my lawyer could have resolved everything in the first hearing, but unfortunately, he didn’t answer any of the member’s questions.
