Hey guys,

Looking for somewhere to rent in Toronto. Not against airbnb. Any recommendations for short term places to stay while I get set up?

Cheers,

Ewok

Most IEC participants look at hostels at least initially. They are generally cheap and full of like minded people, Other than airbnb finding a 1-2 month rental in Toronto probably a lost cause or very expensive.

Airbnb is the best bet. Rental vacancies are less than 1% so finding anything else will be extremely difficult.

Good to know. Out of interest, what's considered 'reasonable' as a monthly air bnb rental?
It varies very widely and depends on a number of factors like what you want (just a private room with shared facilities? your own bathroom? kitchen? how many bedrooms?), location, amenities, etc.

Best option is to search on airbnb and see rates and what's available for your period of stay. Again, there are still many factors that influence price like location and amenities.

What do you mean when you say rental vacancies are less than 1%?

Thank you
It means that rental units that are currently available to rent are less than 1% of the total population - meaning it's very tough if you are a renter. It's very difficult to find a place to rent in Toronto right now. Prices are high and people will offer more than the rental rate to the landlord to secure a good place. This also means landlords are generally looking for individuals who want to lock into a 1 year lease.

This is why airbnb is really your best bet because you are looking for short term. You could also look at shared / sublet advertisements on kijiji and craigslist - but be careful because sometimes these can be scams.
