Experience letter for study permit

Hello everyone. For study permit applications, should the experience letter be from the HR department or your reporting manager? Both on company’s letterhead of course

Will experience letter be enough or do I need to submit bank statement as well (for credibility). Ps: I have left the job a year ago.

Reference is a must. Paystubs and bank statements are nice to have.
