I became a Permanent Resident on June 7th, 2023. Before that, I was an international student with a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) issued on May 15th, 2020, and expiring on May 15th, 2023. Prior to becoming a PR, I traveled twice to my home country—from November 11th, 2021 to January 7th, 2022, and again from June 30th, 2022 to June 7th, 2023. However, I’m confused because the IRCC physical presence calculator shows only 319 days of absence for the second trip, which doesn’t match my calculations. According to the calculator, I will be eligible to apply for citizenship on August 28th, 2025, but I’m concerned that the software might be miscalculating my days. Could anyone confirm if this is accurate or advise what steps I should take? I would really appreciate any advice or shared experiences!

I’m not sure how they will count your time before the PR, generally it’s 50% credit but that may have limits. Either way, if their calculations say the earliest for you is Aug 28th then I would wait for another 30-60 days (I.e. Oct 28) before applying. Having some cushion for miscalculations will avoid resubmissions and delays.

When the day you signed on your application, were you not 55 yet? And you are still qualified to get language skills and test excempted?
We didn't know and waited until my husband turning 55 and applied on his birthday.

Hi everyone, are there any long-distance truck drivers in this group? Does anyone know how to apply for citizenship with regular work travel outside of Canada? I'd appreciate any information.

It's really no different except that the physical presence part gets ... lengthy.

While you really MUST keep your own records, you can order your exit/entry info from CBSA to double-check. (In our case we found one exit missing that potentially affected the physical presence count, so we addressed that). I have heard that land borders are worse for missing records but idk. Just make sure you have enough days with some buffer.

It will likely be obvious from your app that you are travelling for work and what kind of work. It's not that uncommon so nothing to worry about really.
