Great, Volunteer departure is the best option to depart. You can come back to USA with TN visa once you obtain Candian citizenship. I am a Registered Nurse too. I just applied for job in BC and they asked me my legal status in Canada. Can you suggest me something how to get job with company who hire international workers. Thankyou
When I apply for the job, I put I need work permit. I emailed every talent acquisition directly, and let them know I took my IELTS, did my study verification, and had express entry profile. I kept applying job and different hospitals and positions. I heard BC is very saturated with international nurses at the moment, but keep applying for jobs. I also building up my skills ( PD, Ultrasound guided IV, ACLS, NIHSS, certification for critical nurse)

I don’t understand how you can be seeking asylum and then going back to home country to apply for somewhere else?

It just looks like a back door to economic immigration and you weren’t actually fleeing anything.

Wouldn’t count on this being possible especially if during Trump administration.

Trump administration is the one who pushed people for voluntary departure in favor of easier future immigration pathways. Trump needs number to brag about.

I replied to the ability to easily work in the US while living in Canada not voluntary departures. We have seen that previous US asylum claimants or people who have traveled through the US and claimed asylum in Canada are now struggling to enter the US.

Hi Priya,
I have also the same situation and planning to get PR but now I'm nursing student and long way to go. One question for you: did you try to change your status here in the US from asylum to green card application via your job as a nurse here? I heard some people especially doctors changed their status from asylum to work green card. 2. Why did not you process PR via PNP and express entry that was more convenient. I wanted to apply for nursing program as international student in Canada but I heard the asylum may flag and reject the study permit. Any advice, i really appreciate. And thankyou for your valuable comments.

Yeah, changing from asylum to green card application is not easy because I am an Indian citizen and so if I try to change it, we have a 13 years of backlog for the green card . I tried to contact a company and they said its a very long way for Indian citizens and yeah, you cannot apply for a student permit either . If you’re gonna apply they’re gonna refuse it. It’s kind of hard situation I think . I would suggest you to get a pnp or AIP and especially pnp is not so easy this time cause it’s really hard to find an employer. I already have a couple of years of experience of nursing in USA, but still I find hard time while searching for employer and I got my AIP from Nova Scotia, which was more easier than pnp and I’m gonna apply for my C18 WP permit amd PR simultaneously and let’s go how it goes I will update you

If you claimed "asylum" but can "voluntarily leave" for EE/PNP - was your asylum application even genuine?
