Good morning,

I applied for Canadian citizenship in February and recently received a test invitation. However, I have decided not to proceed with the application at this time. Due to personal and family reasons, I will need to stay outside Canada for a few months. I plan to reapply for citizenship in the future.

I have a few questions regarding the withdrawal process:

  1. Based on my research, I understand that I need to submit form CIT 0027 to withdraw my application. Could you please confirm if there are any additional steps I should take?
  2. Will withdrawing my current application have any negative impact on future citizenship applications?
  3. I will also be renewing my PR card later this year. Will withdrawing my citizenship application affect my PR card renewal in any way?
Please let me know if there is anything else I should consider before proceeding with the withdrawal.

1) you only need to file this, which includes uploading the document you listed. No other step. https://secure.cic.gc.ca/ClientContact/en/Application/Form/74

2) it should not. Everything "affects" a citizenship since IRCC will take note of your previous withdrawal, but it should probably stop at that.

3) those are completely separate processes.

Also, as a side note, if you're only away for a "few" months, there's always the possibility to just let IRCC know of your absence, including the reason, and ask for them not to schedule the oath ceremony while you're away. There's no guarantee they actually accommodate you, but maybe they do, which will save you some processing time and money once back. Plenty of applicants successfully get their citizenship while being away for a significant portion of the processing.
Your choice, but if you can withdraw at any point, why not let the processing continue and only actually do it if IRCC asks you to be in Canada at a time when you jus cannot?

I recommend not withdrawing. You can give the test from anywhere. Rest will require time. When you application is approved and if you get a oath invite do contact IRCC. I have seen some threads that few folks had emergency and they gave the oath outside the country and got the passport from the embassy. But do take it with grain of salt. If you can come to Canada for oath then its best.
