I graduated in May/June 2025 and my study permit runs until end of Nov 2025. I plan to travel to my home country before end of Nov (will be back before the end of my student permit). I also have a TRV valid until 2027, which should allow me to re-enter Canada with no problem. However, I currently am working full-time, so I am worried if I will lose my "implied" status or ability to work once I return from my travels. When meeting with a border service officer, should I just re-enter as a visitor or should I explicitly mention that I am "implied" with proof of my PGWP application (and student permit)? I just want the way with the highest chance of entry and me continuing my work again as I wait for my PGWP decision.

In this IRCC link and under the section "Travel outside Canada", it does say that I will have no problems going back to my work, but multiple reddit posts have said otherwise. Any clarifications will be appreciated :)!

Hi everyone,

I completed my studies in April 2025 and travelled to South Africa in May 2025 for about a month to visit family. While I was there, I applied for my Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP). At the time, I selected that I was applying from outside Canada (South Africa), since I was physically there, and listed Canada as my previous country of residence.

I returned to Canada in June 2025 before my graduation and have been living here continuously since then. My study permit expired in Nov. 2025 but I had been working until April of 2026 because I didn't know I wasn't allowed to. I recently left my job because of that.

It’s now been almost 11 months since I applied, and my application is still in process. I recently contacted my MP, and they were told that my criminality check has passed but my eligibility is still under review.

I’ve also sent a webform which was met with an automated response and submitted a letter of explanation to clarify that my stay in South Africa was temporary and that my primary residence has been in Canada.

I’ve now been informed that I may not be authorized to work while waiting, which has made the situation more stressful.

I’m wondering if anyone knows if this means that my application will get rejected and how long you think it'll take?

Any insight or similar experiences would really help. Thank you so much in advance.
