I have had permeant residency in Canada for 10 years and I believe that I am elligible.

However I am concerned about my taxes. My filings are up to date with CRA, however I am still actively paying them off on an overdue monthly plan.

I am concerned about submitting an application for citizenship without having fully paid off the CRA. Does anyone have any experience with this being an issue? Will it effect my Citizenship application? If I apply could it effect my Permanent Residency status?

I don’t think there’s and issue as long as you filed your taxes

You'll be fine. As long as you have a current payment arrangement with CRA you're all good.

Having concerns about tax obligations when applying for Canadian citizenship is completely understandable, especially when you are still on a repayment plan with the Canada Revenue Agency. The good news is that being on a payment arrangement with CRA does not automatically disqualify you from applying for citizenship, as long as you are compliant and actively addressing your tax obligations. What matters most is that your filings are up to date and you are not in serious violation or evading taxes. Many applicants in similar situations have successfully applied while still paying off outstanding balances under structured plans. However, every case is assessed individually, and the immigration authorities will look at your overall compliance history. It is unlikely that simply having an outstanding balance under an agreed repayment plan would directly affect your Permanent Residency status. That said, maintaining consistent payments and documentation of your arrangement is very important. It is always recommended to ensure full transparency in your application regarding your financial situation. Consulting a licensed immigration or tax professional can help clarify any risks specific to your case. In some cases, people also seek external financial guidance from experts such as accounting firms in dubai to better manage cross-border tax and financial planning. Staying proactive with your CRA obligations demonstrates responsibility, which is generally viewed positively in citizenship evaluations. Make sure to keep records of all payments and correspondence with CRA for reference during your application process. Avoid delays in payments, as unresolved defaults could raise concerns during assessment. Ultimately, being in a structured repayment plan is usually not a barrier, but compliance is key. If everything else in your application is strong, your chances should remain unaffected.
