I am no expert. I cannot say how YOU should complete this part of the application.
Applicants need to read the form and the instructions for themselves and answer based on
their own best understanding of what is being asked and what is the best answer (focus on giving an accurate, honest, and reasonably complete answer). I realize saying this probably seems trite, as in "
yeah, but how should I interpret the question, how should I answer it in this situation?" Thing is, there are so many different scenarios, so many possible variations, it is really, really important for applicants to figure this out for themselves.
My understanding of what is requested in item 11, where the application is asking applicants to "
Tell us what you have been doing during your five year eligibility period," is asking for information about the applicant, not about the employer other than identifying the name of the employer. My understanding is it is asking:
- what you did
- the date range you did that
- who your employer was for that activity (or name of school if applicable)
- where you did that activity (address)
There are scenarios in which some applicants might apprehend this information could raise questions. You recently posted in regards to one brought up by another forum participant:
which did not get answered here. I don't give advice (I am not qualified to give advice and this forum is not suitable for sharing the amount of information necessary to give competent advice beyond what is basic and should be obvious). But I would say "
neither" unless one of them is the address where the applicant worked, which if so that would be the address, since the question is asking the applicant to disclose the address where they worked.
Among other scenarios which might make it more difficult to know how to best answer this question, are various situations in which the applicant worked at a remote location ("
remote" as in other than a location occupied or used by the employer, such as those who work remotely from their home). Since the nature of the employment relationship itself can vary considerably, there is no general guideline for how to approach this.
For some scenarios, it might be prudent to include an explanation with the application (many here refer to this as a LoE). Generally, however, unless the situation really is highly unusual or bizarre, just the information to be put in the application form is sufficient. IRCC processes hundreds of thousands of citizenship applications every year, literally hundreds of thousands. So they regularly see and can readily figure out and understand the information provided. After all, this item is mostly about providing information that can be used to cross-check the applicant's whereabouts during the entirety of the eligibility period.
