I applied for PR while on a valid work permit and also applied for a work permit extension before it expired, which was approved. However, I became a PR before the extended work permit expiry date.
When completing my citizenship application, the online system would not allow me to enter the work permit extension information, the system says the extension expiry date cannot be greater than the date of when the PR was approved. so I did not include it. Has anyone had a similar situation? Did it cause any issues?

The expiration date is when your status finishes, not the date written on the document, and your worker status finished when you got PR, so just put the expiry date as the date you became a PR, or the previous day, whatever the system accepts.

thank you for your reply. But I have already submitted the application. Just wondering if it would cause some issues regarding physical presence

I'm curious how the system accepted it if you exclude your work extension. I assume that your original work permit expired before you got your PR, right? So, there will be a gap period if you had your original work permit expired before you got your PR.

Yes, you are right. My original work permit expired in September, but in August I received approval for a work permit extension, valid until December. Then I obtained my permanent residence at the end of November. That’s why, when I was entering this information in the citizenship application, it said that the extension expiry date cannot be later than the date my PR was approved.

So it means the system still accepted it even though there was a gap from September to November - period when you don't have a work permit (actually, you did have permit extension but opted to exclude it) and PR status. Well, you were still in Canada within that gap so you were still present physically, but I wonder about the possibility of questioning your status during that period since you did not declare that you're on a work permit extension. My situation is that my work permit is valid until 2026, but I got my PR in 2024. When entering the expiry of my work permit, there is a system message prompting me that my expiry should not go past my PR date, so I just entered my expiry date as the day before I got my PR.

Yes, you got it. This is my situation. I thought I should do the same thing as you did. put my extension WP exp date one day before I got my PR. I dont know what should I do now. Maybe just wait for IRCC to contact me.
