C62 ICT WP (OPR Received): Can I Apply for Spousal OWP Right After Visa Stamping?

Hi there,


Thanks a lot for your previous reply! Just an update: my C62 Intra-Company Transfer work permit has been approved and I’ve got the OPR (Original Passport Request).


I’m wondering if I can apply for a spousal open work permit for my wife right after I get my visa stamped. From what I’ve read in the immigration regulations, this should be allowed. But my RCIC suggested that I wait until I’ve been working in Canada for 3 months before submitting her application. The thing is, I really don’t want to be separated from my wife at all.


Could you please share your thoughts on this? Would there be any risks if I apply for her permit soon after my visa stamping instead of waiting the 3 months?

Assume this suggestion was made because of a probationary period at your job. Would partially depend on how your contract is written and whether you employer is willing to confirm that your job has either no scheduled end-date or one that is longterm beyond any probationary period of typically 3 months.
