Hi,

So my parents are in Canada on visitor visa and after 15 days their 6 months stay will be over however they have valid visitor visa till 2027. We had already booked returned air ticket for May 19 at the time of coming. However, when we see the situation in India. We are thinking it's not the best time to go back. So what can we do legally to extend the stay? Tia

So far there is no such situation in India that they have to postpone their returns. Extension will take time in processing and cant be done so fast

Apply to extend their stay as visitors and wait for IRCC's respond. They have maintain status as visitor until IRCC make a decision to approve the extension or not.
If it's not approved, then they will need to return home. Otherwise, they can stay till the extended period.

Would look to see if their tickets can be refunded or return date changed. The situation has calmed down quite a bit at the moment. If they do want to try and extend their stay I would suggest asking to extend for a more generic/vague reason. Trying to extend their visit due to instability in India or fear for their safety in India could raise red flags for future visits/visa applications. You don’t want to raise concerns that your parents may try to remain in Canada indefinitely . Wanting to spend more time visiting, enjoying the summer weather in Canada, etc. would be my suggestion for extension reasons.

Have heard people visitor visa being cancelled in backend after the visit who stayed beyond 6 months in Canada and can be a problem in future with different visa applications.

That is primarily for younger people who are of working age where there are concerns that they aren’t genuine visitors given the length of time they have spent “visiting” Canada.

Please is someone that has already applied for visitor visa extension before the due date eligible to stay after 6months when she hasn't gotten response from IRCC.can she stay back after the due date

Your boyfriend should show he can fund his own visit and has strong ties to return to his home country like longterm job, property, etc. Previous international travel history, especially to certain countries, also helps.

Urgent Inquiry: Visitor Record issued at border vs. Pending Extension Application

We were recently blessed with a baby (currently 4 months old). Due to a difficult delivery, my wife is still recovering. As I work full-time, my in-laws have been staying with us to provide support.

They originally arrived in Canada on July 29th, 2025. On December 24, 2025, we submitted an application to extend their stay (Visitor Record), which is still processing.
However, my in-laws had to cross the border last night. Upon re-entry, they were issued a Visitor Record with below specific conditions

1. Must leave Canada by February 16, 2026
2. Must furnish proof of compliance on Feb 16, 2026 at niagara falls rainbow bridge

We need them to stay until June 25, 2026. I have three questions:

1. Does the new Visitor Record (expiring Feb 16) override the "implied status" from their pending extension application?

2. Can they legally stay past February 16 while the December 24 application is still in process?

3. Is it possible to take them to the CBSA office at Pearson Airport to request a new Visitor Record that overrides the February 16 departure date?

4. Can they apply for a fresh visitor record (Extend stay in Canada) other than the one they applied on Dec 24th, 2025? Will this allow them to stay in Canada until the new application is decisioned? If Yes, do they need to still report at rainbow bridge by Feb 16th, 2026 as per condition on the Visitor record? Also, while applying for fresh new visitor record extension, do I have to provide medical exam upfront, since they are from India or can we choose to take it after the application is processed?
