SOWP extension due to passport expiration

Good day everyone. As the title states, I have to renew my wife's SOWP due to the expiration of her passport. I have some questions and would like to know if somebody here had a similar case like ours.

I applied for both permits before January 21, 2025, under the "old" rules (the only requirement I had as student was that I needed a job, regardless of its teer) and both were approved though the SOWP was shorter due to the passport. The question is, will the SOWP extension fall within the same "old" rules or the new rules will apply? (Me, having a Teer 1 or the specifics 2 and 3 job).

The second question I have is, shall we apply by paper or online?

I have tried to get this info from the official channels but haven't gotten anything from them.

You will need to qualify based on the new rules. Many are getting denied because they no longer qualify for SOWP. What is your spouse’s status in Canada? When does it expire?

We both received our permits (my PGWP and my wife's SOWP back in July of this year). I received the full lenght of the work permit (3 years) but my wife received it until July of 2026 (which is when her original passport expired). So, she currently has a valid work permit.
My wife already has a new passport but haven't applied yet since Im waiting for a promotion in my current workplace.
