Hi everyone, I am a protected person in canada, got admission for nursing September intake but I am not able to apply for my study permit yet because I haven't received my osap assessment form yet which is needed for my study permit application as proof of fund. Osap do not send out assessment form until mid july. I am really worried as I have limited time for my application, i would have used my account statement but i do not have enough funds as i just started working recently. Am i allowed to submit my study permit application with a letter explaining why I don't have my proof of fund yet and telling them I will upload it when I have it? What other options do I have?

Current processing is 14 weeks so chances of approval by September are slim. May want to apply with what you have and submit additional documents through webform later.

I’ve been in Canada since 2022 and received my Notice of Decision as a protected person in December 2022. I started school in Fall 2023 but didn’t know I needed a study permit since my school never asked for one.

Recently (October 2025), my school told me I must have a study permit to continue studying, so I applied from inside Canada right away using form IMM5709. My application was submitted on October 15, 2025, and it’s now being processed by IRCC.

I’m just worried if IRCC might punish me for studying without a permit before now, even though it was an honest mistake and I’ve always had legal status as a protected person.

Not related to OP's questions because OP knew that a study permit was required. Already answered in your other thread. You will not know until you receive an answer to your application. Your school should have told you that you needed a study permit too, so both at fault.

On a positive note it appears as though IRCC and schools are finally verifying who is on a study permit and whether they are compliant.

Not Ontario Tech (school the poster is attending) because the poster has been studying for 2 years without a study permit.

Yes you are allowed to submit your study permit application with a letter explaining your situation with OSAP.

Make sure that letter is detailed and tell them you are applying now because the processing time is (timeframe), your semester starts in (date), OSAP sends out assessment letters in (date) etc.

Also if you have any documents from OSAP attach them as well (acknowledgement, application copy or anything to show you're in the process).

Good luck! Nursing should be one of the highest paid jobs, your choice is admirable.
